Volodymyr Gun’ko, Head of Department at Chuiko Institute of Surface Chemistry, NAS of Ukraine


Volodymyr Gun’ko, Professor, Head of Department at Chuiko Institute of Surface Chemistry, has experience in cooperating with western scientific and commercial partners. He supervised scientific contracts with Sherwin-Williams Co. (USA), Innocentive (USA), and Wellness Cigarette International Ltd (Sweden), collaborated with MAST Carbon International Ltd. (UK), Protista Biotechnology AB (Sweden), Polymerics GmbH and Wacker (Germany) that resulted in R&D of innovative products. He was a Principal Investigator (PI) in several international grants (NATO, CRDF, IRSES, STCU) with partners from UK, USA, Poland, Sweden, Greece, Australia, China, and Hungary, those were related to creation, investigations and applications of nanomaterials and nanocomposites for medical and industrial applications. He was a Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Brighton (UK), 2010-2011, and Doctor honoris causa (Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, Lublin, Poland, 2013).

The scientific activity of Volodymyr Gun’ko is mainly focused on R&D of metal and metalloid nanooxides, nanostructured carbon materials, polymeric composites filled by nanofillers, as well as on investigations of interfacial phenomena in different media, theoretical modelling of nanostructured materials, developments of original methods and methodologies. He published 4 books and more than 500 research papers.
